Very likely you no longer have a serial port on your pc, instead of manually punching in the frequency settings, this cable allows you to program radio stations database to your scanner by your computer with programming software such as FreeSCAN and bcTOOL. The cable is compatible with BC246T, BC346XT, BC95XLT, BC95XLTB, BCD396T, BCD396XT, BCD996T, BCT15, BR330T and SC230.
Q: Why I need this cable?
A: Instead of manually punching in the frequency settings, this cable allows you to program radio stations database to your scanner by your computer with programming software such as FreeSCAN and bcTOOL.
Q: Which prolific chipset does this cable use, and is it compatible with Windows 10?
A: This cable uses more reliable FTDI chipset. It is compatible with all Windows, Mac versions including the latest Windows 10 and Mac 10.13. Note: most free programming software is Windows based.
Q: Where I can download the driver software?
A: Usually this cable is plug and play and driver will be installed automatically by Windows/Mac. However, in rare cases depending on your computer setting, if you need to do manual installation, please go to FTDI website to download the driver. http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm
Q: Does it work with BC346XT?
A: Please refer to the compatible models listed in product description. Two things are needed to make it work. First of all, the connector (mini 4P USB) need to be physically fit to your scanner. Secondly, the scanner has to use serial communication protocol and that is what this cable do: translate serial signal from the scanner to USB signal to the computer.
